Staff of 100 BMTC buses go on strike
Bengaluru: Around 100 BMTC buses from Depot Number 36 in Bidadi went off the road following a protest by the staff alleging exploitation by the depot officials.
The protest started around 10 am with all the employees protesting. They alleged that the depot manager is not sanctioning leave and is imposing fine on employees even for small errors, the officers said.
The strike was withdrawn following an assurance from senior officials that all their grievances would be addressed.
Notice to BMTC: The state transport department has issued a notice to the BMTC for not following the Supreme Court guidelines on school buses.
According to transport department officials, 21 schools have hired BMTC bus services to pick up and drop students. The notice was served as these buses do not have facilities like the mandatory first-aid box, women crew members etc.
Buses, trucks resume service to Tamil Nadu
Bus services between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu that were disrupted since Monday resumed on Wednesday. The movement of trucks too restored. KSRTC officials said the first bus from Tamil Nadu to Karnataka left around 10 am on Wednesday as the situation was normal. All the schedules were operated on Wednesday. TNRTC also operated all its services to Karnataka. Private buses that connect the city with various border towns and villages of Tamil Nadu also operated all the buses. No untoward incident was reported. Thousands of trucks that had stopped at various places on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway also reached the Chennai port. “The trucks were transporting export items to the port. If the tension continued, it would have created a lot of problems for the city industrialists and traders," said Mr. Ravi Kumar, an export agent. The movement of trains too remained normal.
