Speed up, stick to deadlines: Siddaramaiah to BBMP
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday directed BBMP officials to complete the Signal Free Corridor (SFC), grade separators and flyovers within deadline to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
During a review meeting, he said that various projects that have been taken up under the Nagarothana and other schemes should be put on fast track. He directed the BBMP to coordinate with Railway officials to complete the eight-lane signal-free corridor near Okalipura by August.
He said the grade separator near Magadi Road should be completed by January 30 and would be named after martyr Major Akshay Girishkumar. Rani Channamma flyover in Padmanabhanagar too is scheduled for completion by December-end. Officials said that hard rock at the construction sites have delayed the completion.
Mr Siddaramaiah directed officials to carry out the demolition drive against the encroachment of drains and lakes. BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said that a survey would be taken up with the help of surveyors and the demolitions would start from Thursday.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in completing skywalks and directed the BBMP to complete the works of all the 76 skywalks with escalators at the earliest. BBMP officials replied that tenders have already been floated.
Garbage tender
The chief minister directed the BBMP to relax tender norms in solid waste management to make it more competitive. Unless certain conditions are relaxed getting contractors would be difficult and financially cumbersome on the BBMP. Now, garbage clearance is being done in an ad hoc manner, he said.
Mr Siddaramaiah said there should be coordination among the stakeholders, including the BWSSB, to complete works within two months related to 20 kilometre of roads after laying new drinking water pipelines.
TenderSure Phase 3 to be put on hold
The phase 3 of TenderSure specification roads, which shrunk the width of the roads and increased the space for pedestrian walkways, will be put on hold and the focus will now be on upgrading arterial and sub-arterial roads to improve traffic movement, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday during a BBMP review meeting.
He directed officials to consult the Chief Secretary and BBMP commissioner to decide whether the roads should be asphalted or taken up under the TenderSure project.
After the review meeting, Mayor G. Padmavathi told the media that the chief minister directed the BBMP to put 25 TenderSure roads on hold because of the exorbitant cost and inordinate delays in these projects. The chief minister directed the Palike to take up white topping of roads, the mayor said.
Though TenderSure roads have been appreciated, shifting of utilities is a big challenge in core areas of the city. Besides, the chief minister felt that the works should be executed only during the night to avoid inconvenience to road users. The focus should be on asphalting of major roads, she added.
The chief minister directed officials to complete all TenderSure roads under Phase 2 by July.
