KSRTC to scrap 1200 uneconomic schedules
Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC which was finding it difficult to pay the salaries of employees and pensions has identified 1200 schedules that can be stopped to ensure financial discipline.
Sources said that a depot-wise analysis was conducted to identify schedules which were not economical following MD M G Rajamanikyam’s instruction. Schedules with less than '10,000 daily collection were considered as uneconomic.
It is estimated that 1,200 of the total 5,300 daily schedules operated by the KSRTC are on uneconomic routes. Most of the uneconomic bus routes are operated due to political compulsions.
The decision to go for such cost cutting measures were being initiated as the Corporation was finding it difficult to pay salaries and pensions and also found it difficult to pay fuel bills. The date for paying pension was November 15 while that for salary was November 30. However, both of these were yet to be paid. Rs 90 crore is required to pay salaries and pensions.
Meanwhile, the INTUC led Transport Democratic Front (TDF) has decided to organise a black day on December 8 over the failure of the KSRTC to pay pension and salary to employees.
