Hyderabad: Inspector evades cops using their own tactics
Hyderabad: Thappachabutra detective inspector Y. Rajashekhar who robbed a trader at Banjara Hills, is successfully evading two police search teams using his police training and ‘cop instincts’.
Attempts by the police to track his mobile phone have also failed. His parents and his wife who live in Mangalagiri have not given any leads to the police.
Cops say he is capable of evading the law for a long time. “He was an officer specialised in detective tasks. So it won’t be easy to catch him. Unlike normal criminals he knows where the police is looking for him. His police training may help him to evade the police,” said a senior official, who was once a supervising officer of Rajashekhar.
Search teams of the west zone police and the commissioner’s task force have already been put under surveillance Rajashekhar’s village in Kurnool and his relative’s house in Vijayawada. But, they have not got any leads from these places so far.
The tainted cop’s past is not very colourful. Y. Rajashekhar was trapped by the ACB in a bribery case and was suspended in 2012. “When he was working at the Nampally police station he was trapped by the ACB and the bribe he took was seized from him. He was suspended from service but was later reinstated,” said a source from Hyderabad police.
Rajashekhar joined the Thappachabutra police station one-and-a-half years ago and his performance is not impressive.
"Tappachabutra is not a crime hub but still there are many cases of fraud and other cases that should be investigated by a detective inspector. Rajashekhar has not been able to crack any important case,” said another official.
The day he and the local Congress leader Thirumalesh Naidu allegedly robbed Rs 30 lakh from a trader at Banjara Hills he left the police station early, saying that he was going home. When the probe team inquired with his family, they claimed that he was at home the whole day on the day of the robbery.
