SCR Vijayawada division ticket check nets record Rs 24.5 lakh

Vijayawada: A major ticket-checking drive across Vijayawada division has yielded the highest-ever penalty of Rs 24.5 lakh on a single day. Authorities booked 3,484 cases for ticket-less travel, un-booked luggage and irregular travel.

Senior DCM Rambabu Vavilapalli said total 48 trains had been checked by various teams in all sections of Vijayawada division. Squad TTEs, station staff and newly recruited pro-commercial clerks and ticket collectors took part in the mega drive.

At Vijayawada Railway Station, total 86 ticket checking staff and 10 RPF personnel participated in the ticket-checking drive. Penalties of Rs 8.68 lakh had been levied at Vijayawada station alone, with cases booked being 1,294.

Checking staff also booked nine unauthorised vendors and fined them Rs 45,000.

There were 1,641 cases of ticketless travel and 1,825 cases of irregular travel, with fines collected being Rs 15.41 lakh and Rs 9.10 lakh respectively.

Vijayawada divisional railway manager Narendra A. Patil complimented railway staff for successfully organising a mega ticket checking drive and collecting the highest-ever penalty in a single day.
