Deadline over, Pattandur Lake yet to see development works

Mr Sandeep Anirudhan, a member of Whitefield Rising, wondered why the BDA was not surveying the land.

Bengaluru: The BDA, as usual, has shrugged off its responsibility of surveying, cleaning and fencing the Pattandur Lake before Nov 7. The Authority had on October 28 promised residents that the authority would carry out development works and open the lake for public on Tuesday. But nothing has been done since, say residents.

“We have filed a police complaint about debris dumped on the lakebed. The tahsildar had to complete a survey of the lake area and give us the documents, after whch development works were to begin,,” said Mr Mallikarjun, Assistant Engineer, BDA.

This again proves lack of coordination between various civic agencies, the residents complained, saying they want to see the lake back to its former glory.

Mr Sandeep Anirudhan, a member of Whitefield Rising, wondered why the BDA was not surveying the land. “Till last month, the BDA did not even acknowledge that they are the custodians of the lake. They must stop this blame game,” he said.

The BDA, however, maintained that their responsibility is limited to taking care of developmental works and they could go ahead with the projects only after the survey.

Mr Ram Prasad, co-founder, Friends of the Lake, said, “Very powerful people have encroached the land of the lake and a case is pending before the court on encroachments.”
