Verdict in Dilsukhnagar blast case ruling on November 21
Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency court will pronounce its verdict on the Dilsukhnagar blast on November 21.
At least 17 people were killed and more than 130 others injured in the twin blasts in Dilsukhnagar on February 21, 2013.
The trial against the suspects — top Indian Mujahideen operatives Yasin Bhatkal, Asadullah Akhtar, Zia Ur Rehman, Tehseen Akh-tar and Ajaz Shiekh — was completed earlier. The court had examined over 157 witnesses.
This is the first case involving Yasin Bhatkal where a verdict would be handed down. Investigations and trial are proceeding in about half a dozen other cases involving him.
During the probe, Yasin Bhatkal was picked up along with Asadullah on August 29, 2013, by the NIA on the Indo-Nepal border. Tehseen and Zia were arrested six months later.
The NIA claimed that Asadullah, Zia and Tehseen conducted a recce of the city and decided to target Dilsukhnagar because it was a predominantly Hindu area.
The NIA said the accused carried out the blasts under instruction from their top boss Riyaz Bhatkal, who is in Pakistan.
The NIA said Asadullah and Tehseen had placed the improvised explosive devices fabricated in a pressure cooker on cycles. During the investigations, Asadullah Zia Ur Rehman demonstrated his ability to prepare an IED.
The NIA also had found that the IEDs were stored in a hideout in Mangaluru in Karnataka.
