Telangana government speeds up project completion
Adilabad: The Telangana government is concentrating on the completion of irrigation projects so that it can claim the additional ayacut brought under irrigation and supply of drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha and project these as its big achievements in the next elections.
Ruling MLAs and Ministers aim to complete irrigation projects in their respective assembly constituencies on a war footing to garner votes.
The state government has sped up construction works of irrigation projects, including Korata-Chanaka on Penuganga river.
Ministers are regularly inspecting the works. Minister for forest and environment Jogu Ramanna is regularly inspecting the Korata-Chanaka lower Penuganga project works for early completion as it was an election promise.
Korata-Chanaka barrage, being constructed at a cost of '1,227 crore, is aimed to irrigate 50,000 acres in Adilabad assembly constituency. Already the state government has released '368 crore.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) also pinned a lot of hopes on completion of Kumram Bheem, Jagannathpur projects in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
However, Congress leaders expressed their dissatisfaction over construction of a barrage instead of a project, as planned earlier by the Congress government.
The Congress leaders said the benefit would be limited with the barrage, unlike a project on Penuganga.
