Satyam founder Ramalinga Raju's son appeals RoC order

He said though the company has received the notice it was not communicated to him as he was not a director.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a plea by Mr B. Teja Raju, son of Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, founder of Satyam Computer Services, challenging the proceedings issued against him by the Registrar of Companies for donating Rs 8.6 lakh to the CPM in two spells.

The RoC said Mr Teja Raju had donated Rs 5 lakh in 2008 and Rs 3.6 lakh in 2009 to the CPM as director of the Maytas Hill County owned by the Raju family. According the ROC no company younger than three can make such donations. It said the donations were in violation of the Companies Act.

Mr Teja Raju in his petition told the court that he had resigned from the company in January 2009, and the ROC had filed the case in 2014.

He said though the company has received the notice it was not communicated to him as he was not a director.

He said the CPM had neither a ruling party nor a recognised Opposition party in the state, and there could be no quid pro quo arrangement between the company and the party. He said the CPM was known as a party that fights for the poor, and no motives could be attributed in donating money to it.

Other former Maytas board directors including Mr B. Rama Raju, Mr Suryanarayana Raju and a relative, Mr Gopalakrishnam Raju, filed separate petitions seeking that they be relieved of the RoC’s charges.
