The DCA is working on the next level objective of enabling consumers to file complaints online.

Kurnool: Mandadi Krishna Reddy, Chairman, Consumer's Affairs Committee, said on Monday that 37 per cent of milk consumed in the country is adulterated. Food products like rice, wheat, vegetables and edible oils are adulterated with spurious substances that are playing havoc with health of the people, he said.

“Adulteration in milk has reached alarming a proportion as 37 per cent of it is adulterated. The biggest challenge is to ensure the health of the infants and children who are the major consumers of milk in the country, ” he said.

He was speaking at KVR Government Women's College here on Monday at a function organised to mark the silver jubilee celebrations of formation of Confederation of Andhra Pradesh Consumers Organisations (CAPCO).

Highlighting that consumer dispute resolutions need a stepped up approach by the government, he said that a major initiative has been to fully digitise the operations of the consumer courts.

He urged the people to utilise the Consumer Forum Network that has linked the consumer fora in the country through a computer network. Any citizen with an internet connection can access the cause list of a district forum or a state commission, check the status of his case and read the orders passed in a case online from the comfort of his home.

This is fully operational in respect of 626 district fora and 36 state commissions besides the National Commission. Other district fora are expected to go live soon. The DCA is working on the next level objective of enabling consumers to file complaints online.

He said that the Centre has been extending financial assistance to States/UTs for strengthening the infrastructure of Consumer Fora so that adequate facilities are made available at each consumer forum.
