Judicial probe to examine sequence of events leading to SIMI encounter
Bhopal: Retired high court Justice SK Pande, who has been appointed to head the judicial commission probing the escape of SIMI terror accused from jail on October 30, will examine the sequence of events leading to their encounter, and whether the action was justified.
According to a report, discrepancies in the accounts of senior police officers regarding whether the SIMI activists were armed have led have caused the inquiry to examine the encounter. Some videos and audios of the encounter have also emerged, casting doubt on the police version of events.
The commission will also examine the sequence of events leading to the jailbreak, fixing the responsibility of officials responsible for it and recommendations to prevent recurrence of jailbreak.
Before appointing the commission, the government had asked former DGP Nandan Dubey to probe the jailbreak and suggest measures to prevent recurrence.
A PIL filed by a Bhopal-based social worker seeking a court-ordered inquiry and prosecution of officials involved in the encounter will be taken up for hearing by the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday. The petitioner had submitted video and audio clips to the court, claiming that the encounter was staged.
