Hyderabad: SIT questioned former cop in gangster Nayeem case
Hyderabad: A retired additional superintendent of police was grilled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the Nayeem case. The cop, Ravinder Reddy, who was earlier posted in Nalgonda district, was called to the Narsingi police station.
Official sources said that Reddy has not been named as an accused and is likely to be a witness in some of the cases.
The additional SP’s name came up after an analysis of gangster Nayeem’s call data and his personal diary. The SIT has been investigating if the official had helped Nayeem and taken money from him.
After the grilling, the retired official said that he did not have any personal connection with the gangster. He said that he had met Nayeem twice as part of his duty in Nalgonda.
Meanwhile, sources said the SIT had speed up investigation as they have to submit a progress report at the High Court soon.
So far, the SIT has questioned a number of politicians, police officers and other suspects. None of the higher rank cops or top notch politicians have been named in the FIR yet. The SIT is also yet to file a charge sheet in the case.
