AP government assures of water supply to farmers

Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said the government will make an action plan to allocate water for the required areas.

Vijayawada: The AP government has assured farmers water for cultivation in one crore hectares despite deficit rainfall. It is yet to finalise necessary steps for the Krishna and Penna deltas.

Farmers are requesting the government to take action at the earliest by way of an alternative measure to support them in this Rabi season, as they have suffered heavily during the Kharif season.

Speaking to this newspaper, minister for irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said the government will make an action plan to allocate water for the required areas, based on priority. The departments of irrigation, agriculture and power will be coordinating the preparation of the action plan. He also mentioned that they would use rain guns wherever required.

YSRC leader and Rytanga Samakhya representative Nagi Reddy said the irrigation minister was not in a position to conduct the IAB meetings even in his home town but the minister announcing that they have been allocating water to different areas even in difficult conditions was not fair.
