95 thatched residences destroyed in major fire in Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry: As many as 95 thatched houses were destroyed in a fire rendering several families shelterless at Kalyan Nagar at Konthamuru village falling under Rajanagaram police station limits on Monday.
According to Rajanagaram police, at about 9.00 am, fire started on the roof of a hut and spread to adjoining huts. A majority of the residents work as labourers and were out for work. The elderly persons were saved by the locals and the police personnel. The inmates failed to rescue any valuables. Their household appliances, dresses, valuable records like bank account books, Aadhaar and ration cards, cash and others were burnt. Domestic gas cylinders burst with huge sound.
As many as four fire tenders two from Rajahmundry and one each from Anaparthy and Jaggampeta were rushed to put out the fire. It took nearly two hours to the fire fighters to extinguish the fire.
