Miscreant throws detonator at YSRC MLA\'s vehicle

Anantapur: A miscreant in an inebriated condition created tense moments by throwing an electric detonator on the vehicle of Penukonda MLA Shankar Narayana during the Gadapa Gadapaku programme at Gaddam Tanda in Gorantla mandal of Satya Sai district on Sunday.

However, the MLA was not in the vehicle and the detonator did not explode as it did not have power supply.

Police detained the miscreant, H. Ganesh, of Gudipalli village in Somandepalli mandal. A driver cum explosives operator, he was working with a construction company at NASIC, the central government-run Customs training institute at Palasamudram in Gorantla mandal.

Sources said Shankar Narayana, the Satya Sai district unit president of YSRC, was scheduled to attend the Gadapa Gadapa Ku programme in Gorantla mandal. When he reached Gaddam Tanda, the vehicles were parked at one point of the village. The MLA, a former minister, started walking through the village as part of the day's programme.

A motorcycle rally had also been planned at Gorantla, for which YSRC cadres from various areas were coming in.

Police said, “Ganesh was working with a private company attached to CCI near Palasamudram on NH 44 road. He reported for work on Sunday in an inebriated state. The contractor asked him to keep off work for the day.”

“Ganesh carried an electric detonator in his pocket, came out and got a lift from a two-wheel rider on his way to the motorcycle rally. The accused reached the Tanda, reportedly threw the electric detonator on an empty car, which belonged to the MLA. The people in the vicinity alerted the police.”

“The detonator did not explode. The accused was detained and will be questioned about his intention and likely provocation from others,” police added.

Meanwhile, Shankar Narayana, who continued his Gadapa Gadapaku in the village, suspected it was a motivated attack on him.
