Bangladeshi using India to land in Gulf

Bureau of Immigration has arrested over one dozen illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in just one month.

Bengaluru: The Bureau of Immigration (BoI) has expressed concern over the rise in the arrests of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and they fear it may be the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

In just one month over one dozen illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been arrested by BoI. Most of them were arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) while trying to flee the country to take up work in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and UAE.

The latest arrest was on Monday, when Afsar Miah, hailing from Habiganj district in Bangladesh, was intercepted by the officials during immigration clearance at KIA.

According to an official, the recent success has been due to trained officials from BoI, who understand the differences in dialects and dictions used by people of various regions such as North east, West Bengal and other states, are tracking these illegal immigrants.

While it becomes difficult for the local police to distinguish between Bengali and Bangladeshi accent, BoI officials are well versed on this count.

The issue of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Nepal has been a challenge to the local police as many of them possess identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN and voters ID cards.
