Telangana government launches online portal for movie tickets

The government urged all the entertainment halls to register quickly to start operations.

Hyderabad: The TS government on Saturday launched an online ticketing portal(https://tsboxoffice.in), a single window platform for all cinema halls and online ticketing websites. The portal was launched by minister for cinematography Talasani Srinivas Yadav, at the Secretariat.

Mr Yadav said that this portal launched by the TS government, was the first of its kind in the country. The portal that will be run by TS Film Development Corporation Ltd, will ensure transparency in the sale of tickets and tax collection.

The online registration for theatres and multiplexes started on Saturday. The government urged all the entertainment halls to register quickly to start operations. Currently though, joining the portal is optional, but according to sources, the government will soon make registrations mandatory for all theatres and multiplexes. The government wants all theatres to sell tickets only through this online portal and stop issuing manual tickets through ticket counters.

At present, the private online ticketing agencies collect a fee of Rs 10 per ticket, which is shared in the ratio of 50:50 between agencies and exhibitors. The government wants to collect Rs 6 as fee per ticket, of which Rs 2 will go for TSFDC and Rs 4 to the exhibitors.

There were complaints of large-scale evasion of entertainment tax earlier, which will now be checked with this portal.
