T10 cricket in UAE set to create waves
Kurnool: The descendants of the last Nawab of Kurnool, Rasool Khan, are instrumental in maintaining the passion for cricket in the United Arab Emirates with the promotion of T10 concept, said its promoter Shaji Ul Mulk. T10 cricket league is valued at $51 million in the cricketing world with global TV live coverage attracting over 100 million viewership.
Shaji Ul Mulk, grandson of Kurnool Nawab, said, "We are very excited about the concept of T10 as it brings cricket to the level of world sports of 90 minutes and fast pace action."
"We enjoy T20. Wait till you experience T10. We have based this league on a South Asian concept as we have a dominant south Asian, cricket crazy population in the UAE and the GCC," he added.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Shaji Ul Mulk, the Chairman of Mulk Group of companies, said that the ICC and Emirates Cricket Board sanctioned T10 Cricket League, comprising six teams where international and local players will compete at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from December 21 to 24, 2017. For the UAE, this event will not only be unique but also a first of its kind in many respects.
The six team vying for the top honour in the T10 cricket league are Maratha Arabians (owners Bollywood star Sohail Khan, Ali Tumbi of Aqua Properties and Parvez Khan, Pacific Venture), Kerala Kings (owners Dr Shafi Ul Mulk, Global Hawk Diagnostics and Hussien Ali, Swiss Arabia), Pakhtoons (owners Habib Khan, General Petroleum), Bengal Tigers (owners Alam, Neelesh Bhatnagar and Sajan Brothers, Colombo Lions (owners Vijay Vyas, Mohd Morani and Kashif) and Punjab Legends (owners Inzamam- Ul-Haq, former Pakistan Captian, and Intizar-ul-Haq).
Shaji Ul Mulk, chairman Mulk Group and accomplished former UAE national cricketer, is the mastermind behind this brand new venture, the first of its kind in an organised and highly competitive ambience in this part of the world.
Leading the Kerala Kings, though the composition of the team would be decided after the auction like for the other six teams in fray, will be English skipper Eoin Morgan.
Other international names that will be doning 'ambassador status' for the tournament include Virender Sehwag,Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara and Shakib Al Hasan.
