GHMC remains unmoved
Hyderabad: Residents of colonies surrounding Ramanthapur took to the street to protest the pathetic state of the colonies which were inundated during last Monday’s heavy downpour.
The flood water has not been drained out of the colonies even after a week, and moss has begun forming on the surface.
In Sai Chitra Nagar, Ravendra Nagar Colony, Lakshmi Nagar, sewerage water has entered into houses and people are living in knee deep water in those colonies.
“The inflows from different areas such as Osmania University and Habisguda are flowing into Ramanthapur. We have lodged repeated complaints with the GHMC to drain out the water. They assured that it would be done but nothing has happened for a week,” a resident said.
He said that about 5,000 people live in the area, most of whom are affected.
There is no outlet for the stagnated water, and the only solution is to drain it out which needs equipment.
Many colonies especially in Anand Bagh, Malkajgiri, Quthbullapur, Allwyn Colony, and Kukatpally, were inundated for more than 24 hours after last week’s rain.
A similar situation prevails in Moula Ali, with drain water stagnating in the lanes and bylanes. The GHMC’s air tech machines are either unavailable due to high demand or cannot enter the narrow lanes.
