Bengaluru court acquits former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy

A Bengaluru court acquitted former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy in a solar scam related case on Saturday.

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court acquitted former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy in a solar scam related case on Saturday.

The City Civil Court acquitted Mr Chandy, who was the fifth accused in the cheating case filed by a Bengaluru businessman in connection with the scam, for lack of evidence and witnesses in the case.

The businessman, Kuruvilla, had approached the court seeking return of money he had deposited with SCOSSA Educational Consultants Pvt Ltd for setting up a solar power project in Kerala.

The court in April had quashed an earlier order, directing Mr Chandy to pay a fine of Rs 1.61 crore to the businessman after the Congress leader had approached the court on the grounds that the court had not heard his version and it was an ex-parte order.

The Bengaluru-based businessman had filed a complaint in the civil court, alleging that SCOSSA Educational Consultants Pvt Ltd, run by Binu Nair, and suspected Kerala solar scam perpetrator Biju Radhakrishnan had convinced him to invest in solar projects in Kerala.
