Several colonies in the Huzurabad and Jammikunta municipalities inundated
Karimnagar: The low-lying areas and villages merged under the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) limits along with several colonies in the Huzurabad and Jammikunta municipalities were inundated due to heavy rains in the past three days that disturbed normal life in Karimnagar district.
The road that leads to Jagtial from Adalath circle was inundated and movement of vehicular traffic majorly affected. The road to Sircilla was damaged by heavy rains and flooding. Several colonies in the Padmanagar area were submerged.
In Huzurabad, crops cultivated in the Chelpur and Jupaka villages were affected. Vehicular movement came to a halt with the overflowing of water from Chilukawaghu on the Parkal road. The compounds of several government offices were inundated in the rain water.
Many houses and the compound walls were damaged at Indiranagar colony in Huzurabad town and at the housing board colony in Jammikunta town.
Former minister and BJP leader Etala Rajendar visited the housing board colony in Jammikunta town and took rounds of the houses affected by the floods.
He was told by the inhabitants that they were unable to go out of their homes for the past two days because of the floods and the bad condition of their houses and colonies. Etala arranged meal packets for them with the help of his followers.
City Congress president Narendar Reddy alleged that several colonies were inundated because the ruling TRS government did not take any remedial steps in the past seven years.
“Chief minister Chandrashekar Rao promised the people of Karimnagar city that he would transform the city to the level of Dallas (the US city in the oil-rich Texas state). Is this the way he is transforming the city into Dallas,” he asked.
“The smart city works were taken up without a scientific approach. Without constructing the underground and side drainage canals and proper planning to divert the flood waters, officials are taking up road laying works, that too of poor quality,” he alleged.
He said that instead of consoling the people suffering for the past one week due to the heavy rains, and several colonies in the city inundated, minister Gangula Kamalakar and City Mayor Sunil Rao were busy campaigning in Huzurabad.
Meanwhile, the Karimnagar MP and BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar on a Padayatra called up district collector Karnan and inquired about the flood situation in the district. He appealed to the BJP activists to participate in the rescue efforts and provide assistance to the flood-affected people.
