C Shikha takes over as BMTC chief

The State Government issued orders to transfer 12 IAS officers including Shikha on Friday.

Bengaluru: Senior IAS Officer Ms C. Shikha has been posted as Joint Secretary and has been transferred as Managing Director (MD) of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation BMTC replacing N.V. Prasad.

The State Government issued orders to transfer 12 IAS officers including Shikha on Friday. She has also been placed in concurrent charge as MD, Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC).

It may be recalled that the senior IAS officer is known for her tough decisions and had hit the headlines for refusing to yield to political pressure.

Shikha, who belongs to the 2004 batch, had hit the headlines for filing a case against former president of Zilla Panchayat of Mysuru K. Marigowda, a close confidant of then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, for intimidating her while discharging her official duties, when she was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru during 2013 to 2016.

Though Shikha was under pressure to withdraw her complaint against Marigowda and 30 other members, she did not oblige but stood her ground. Marigowda was absconding for several months after this incident.

Though the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allegedly attempted to get her to withdraw this case through her husband M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, who was then Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, Shikha refused to withdraw the case.

Former Prime Minister H.D.Deve Gowda had also praised Shikha as a model to other DCs for her honesty and administrative skills after this incident.

Later, the State Government transferred Shikha as the Commissioner of Social Welfare Department, Bengaluru.
