Supreme Court moved for deportation of Rohingyas

Petitioner Indic Collective Trust said there is a clear social, economic and security danger if they are not deported.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has been moved on Thursday for a direction to allow deportation of 40,000 Rohingya Muslims to Myanmar as they pose a serious threat not only to the national security but also to peacefully living Indian citizens.

Seeking to intervene in the writ petition filed by Mohammad Salimullah and another Rohingya refugee to stop deportation, the petitioner Indic Collective Trust said there is a clear social, economic and security danger if they are not deported.

The applicant said if India does not set down the rules of the game right now, it would be difficult to argue against and stop Rohingyas influx into India at later point of time. The Rohingyas have in fact become an Islamic terror, and it is said so because from a cursory survey of Rohingya history, it is clear that the Rohingya are not an ethnic, but a political construction.

It pointed out that the Rohingya population was denied citizenship under the 1982 Burmese citizenship law, after which they migrated to nearby countries like Bangladesh and India. As of today around 40,000 and more Rohingyas are residing in India and are identified as illegal immigrants by the government.
