Report to duty today, Tamil Nadu government directs its employees

In the order, the top bureaucrat spoke in detail about the injunction passed by the Madurai Bench of the Madras high court.

Chennai: After the Madras high court issued an injunction restraining government employees associations from restoring to indefinite strike, Tamil Nadu government on Thursday night asked all striking staff to report to duty on Friday.

In a late night order, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan asked all employees who have participated in the strike to report to duty on Friday. In the order, the top bureaucrat spoke in detail about the injunction passed by the Madurai Bench of the Madras high court. “The Hon'ble High Court has observed that the teachers are resorting to strike to the detriment of the students. It is not as if the employees are not having any other method to express their protest or to resolve the dispute in an amicable manner without disturbing the work.“The employees have to adopt other alternative methods for redressal of their grievances. In any case, strike is not the weapon to be taken by the employees for redressal of their grievances,” she said in the order.The indefinite strike called by a section of teachers and government employees associations affected the government primary and middle schools, many government offices in the state.

“Many teachers and government employees participated in our strike and it was a success,” said A.Mayavan from Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary Graduate Teachers Association and one of the coordinators of Jactto-Geo.
