Karnataka: RV Deshpande bats for electric car industry
Bengaluru: Referring to the state government’s plans to bring in an electric vehicle policy for promoting the use of power- based vehicles in the state, Large and Medium Industries Minister, R V Deshpande on Thursday explained that along with aerospace technology, the electric vehicle manufacturing sector was today considered a sunshine industry badly in need of a boost.
Speaking to reporters after unveiling the logo and website of the Vendor Development and Investor Summit 2017 here, he said the new policy would promote the electric vehicle and battery manufacturing sector in the state.
Hitting out at the Union government, he observed that the number of job opportunities in India had not grown according to expectation during the last three years. In fact, compared to the national average of 14 per cent, Karnataka was slightly better with a 14.7 per cent growth in employment, he maintained.
The Minister also said that the state government was trying to give a boost to medium and small industries and provide more jobs. He went on to add that the summit would provide opportunities to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their capabilities to various Original Equipment Manufacturers and enable the latter identify suitable vendors. “The summit will also provide participating companies the opportunity to explore investment options in the state,” he explained,revealing that it would focus on aerospace and defence equipment, automobiles, auto components , electric vehicles, biotech, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, agriculture and food processing and textiles and apparels.
