Nellore: New course fails to attract students of Vikrama Simhapuri University

No takers for job-guaranteed course.

Nellore: Authorities of Vikrama Simhapuri University were taken aback when no student applied for the 100-per cent placement-guaranteed self-finance course, MBA Logistics and Supply Chain Management, introduced in the college for the first time in the state.

To add value to the course, VSU had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd and Sri City Multi-product Special Economic Zone to provide internship and apprenticeship to the students.

In addition, KPCL had also offered to depute experts for practical training. Port officials told the VSU that there were opportunities in 16 areas in the ports for the students. Like any other course, fees are reimbursed for students from the SC, ST, BC and economically backward communities.

This is not the only course without students. M.Sc Analytical Chemistry has also drawn a blank this year. Only 10 students joined MA Telugu launched in the PG Centre of the VSU at Kavali. MSc Analytical Chemistry is offered in private colleges too unlike MBA Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which is available only in the University College.

VSU management is clueless over students opting for private colleges when the University College has the best permanent teaching staff. A senior lecturer attributed the situation to the strategies of private colleges to secure students which the University College cannot do.

According to the lecturer, private colleges prevail upon their undergraduate students, especially those eligible for fee reimbursement, to pursue PG in the same institution and offer them sops.

“The students are trapped and they are unable to see opportunities such as new course in MBA because of these baits,” the lecturer added.
