New Delhi: Ahead of the Delhi University Students’ Union polls on Friday, hoardings and posters of actress Priyanka Chopra have cropped up at various places in the capital. Congress-backed NSUI and the Left outfit — Aisa — have claimed that it’s a publicity gimmick by an ABVP candidate with the same first name.
But Priyanka Chhawri, the RSS-affiliated ABVP nominee for the vice-president’s post, has denied putting up those posters and billboards. Alleging foul play by rival groups, Ms Chhawri said she will take up the issue with her student organisation and DU’s election panel.
NSUI’s social media in-charge Harshad Sharma tweeted picture of one such hoarding and said: “Such is the frustration level of #ABVP that they are using pic of @priyankachopra in-stead of Priyanka chhawri.” He said he spotted the hoarding at Kashmere Gate.
Harsh Vardhan, an AISA member, claimed that similar posters have cropped up at many places, particularly around varsity colleges. The unsigned posters also bear the ABVP’s candida-te’s ballot number, he said.
NSUI vice-president Bharat Kumar accused the ABVP of misleading student voters and said: “The ABVP has never contested elections on real posters and real issues.”
But the Dusu chief electi-on officier, D.S. Rawat, said he has not received any complaint in this regard. In 2014, the then Dusu secretary Kanika Shekhawat was accused of using model and VJ Nauheed Cyrusi’s picture on posters urging students to vote for her. Student parties on Wedn-esday concluded their campaign for the Friday polls.
