Bengaluru demolitions: Orion Mall sits on drain, says report

BBMP dragging its feet on encroachment, says yet to recieve report on building violations by actor Darshan.

BENGALURU: It appears that BBMP officials continue to be on a ‘go slow’ mode while deciding on alleged encroachments by the Orion Mall, actor Darshan’s house and hospital owned former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Officials claim they are still looking into the Orion Mall report given by the Joint Director Land Records and as far as Darshan’s house is concerned they are yet to get report!

The management of Orion Mall had issued a clarification that their property was not sitting storm water grain (SWD). After that Joint Director of the Land Records to the Land Survey Commissioner had submitted a report dated September 2, confirming that the mall had encroached 3 acres 4 guntas of government land (including water sources).

The report further stated that the need to survey the land occupied by Orion mall aroused because the map prepared by the city survey officers, do not have the streams and drains, which were present in the village map. The report stated that the mall was built on lands which originally had designated pathways, water drains and kharab lands. It also urged the BBMP Commissioner to take necessary action as the mall falls under the city survey limits.

The survey report on the encroachment of drains by Darshan and Shivashankarappa is yet to reach BBMP. Ironically, even before BBMP could lay hands on the report, Irrigation Minister T. B. Jayachandra had said that Darshan’s house was not built on an encroached drain.

The anti-encroachment drive, which had slowed down in the last 20 days, is likely to gather steam shortly. No demolition took place on Wednesday. However, markings were done in some parts of the city.
