Godavari flood-hit people laud CM for timely help

VIJAYAWADA: The Godavari flood-hit people from Kunavaram and VR Puram mandals in Alluri Sitarama Raju district and those from Kukunoor mandal in Eluru district praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for providing them relief with immediate effect. The flood-hit stated this during their interaction with the CM on Monday.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “I have been asking the district collectors about the kind of measures to be initiated to avoid trouble for you all at the time of floods and to provide essential commodities and financial relief.

“I avoided visiting the flood-hit places at the height of the floods as I did not want to disturb the official machinery doing its job of rescue and relief with all seriousness. That was not the time for me to reach out for publicity and photo sessions.”

“I have come here to find out how best the authorities provided help to you all. I had empowered the district collectors to take all requisite measures. This was with a condition that when I undertake a visit, as I did now, no flood-hit person should have an occasion to complain that he or she failed to get any relief.”

“Based on the feedback I am getting from you all, it seems all the officials involved in the flood-relief works have worked hard to provide all help to you. Moreover, even if any person fails to get any relief, he or she must contact the officials and they will provide you with what is possible. I have asked to keep the list of beneficiaries on display at village secretariats so that it becomes a transparent exercise,” the CM said.

K. Lakshmi told the CM that the district authorities extended all relief to them and that the local MLA and MLC visited their colonies and coordinated with the district administration to provide all help to the flood-affected.

YSR Congress Gruhasaradhi, Rajani, said, “We were provided with essential commodities and financial relief when we faced trouble due to the floods. I thanked the CM for coming to our rescue.”

Sunitha appealed to the CM to provide road connectivity from VR Puram and Kunavaram to Chintur.

Later, the CM said that he had issued orders to the district collectors to provide relief to the needy on humanitarian grounds and extend a financial relief of ₹10,000 for each damaged thatched house. He enquired with the flood victims whether all the affected families and persons got the relief of ₹2,000 and ₹1,000 respectively while they returned home from the relief camps. They said, “Yes, indeed.”
