PUDUKKOTTAI: Dr. AL Meenakshisundaram, dean. Government Medical College Pudukkottai, has underlined the importance of breastfeeding as it is essential for the well-being of the mother and child.
Presiding over the World breastfeeding week was celebrated at Government Medical College hospital here on Tuesday, wanted that the doctors and public should jointly create an awareness regarding breastfeeding .child should be breastfed only with breast milk for the first six months and it should be given up to 2 years of life with supplementary feeding.
Dr Peter described the WHO guidelines regarding breastfeeding and Dr. Deepa explained the advantages of breastfeeding for the mother-baby and society.
Among others, Dr Veeramani head of the department pediatric medicine, deputy medical superintendent Rajmohan, vice-principal Sujatha, RMO, Dr Ravinathan ARMO, Dr Indrani, and others spoke.
Dr Meenakshisundaram gave away the prizes to the winner of healthy baby competition, while the lactating mothers were given incentive prizes.
