Policeman involved in PSC irregularities

PSC secretary Saju George on Wednesday asked DGP Loknath Behera to hold a police probe into the matter.

Thiruvananthapuram: A policeman attached to the Peroorkada SAM camp was involved in the irregularities in the PSC test held for civil police officers. An inquiry conducted by the PSC vigilance found that Gokul of Kallara, a policeman at the Peroorkada SAP camp, had sent the answers through mobile phones to Pranav, who was ranked second in the list. He is Gokul’s neighbour and former SFI office-bearer of the University College. Sivarenjith, accused in the stabbing case in the college, was ranked first.

PSC secretary Saju George on Wednesday asked DGP Loknath Behera to hold a police probe into the matter.

A total of 96 messages were received in Sivarenjith’s phone from two numbers and 78 messages in Pranav’s phone from three numbers during the exam hours between 2 p.m. and 3.15 p.m.

The number 7907936722 was used by Gokul, who joined the force in 2017. He told the police higher-ups that Pranav used to take his phone for various purposes and that he was not aware of the malpractices.

The vigilance also found that the fraud was committed using a Chinese smart watch that helped the scanning of printed material.

Nassim, another accused in the stab case who was also included in the PSC rank list, had reportedly used the watch with a SIM card. The watch could send the scanned question paper to the collaborator outside the exam hall as an image. The person would send back the answers to the watch as messages, the officials said.

They also do not rule out the possibility of the question paper being leaked through the last grade employees in the University College who collect the question papers of absent candidates.
