COIMBATORE: A team of enthusiastic Swachh Bharat Abhiyan ambassador volunteers under the leadership of corporation commissioner Srravan Kumar Jatavath are determined to improving the overall Swachh Survekshan rankings of the city. Another set of SBAs of the West zone are working towards making West Zone the Best Zone in the Coimbatore Corporation. A meeting that saw the participation of officials of the civic body, SBA volunteers and residents of the West Zone was called for.
“All development projects, be it Suez drinking water supply or the model road project are implemented on a pilot basis in the West Zone. In a few months’ time, the zone will have Micro Composting Units and soon the push carts that are used to collect garbage from door-to-door will be replaced with Tata Ace vehicles.” an official said at the meeting.
Roles and responsibilities of SBAs were discussed. “In order to bring down the number of incidents of fire at the Vellalore dump yard, we citizens must segregate waste at source before disposing it. By doing so, we are easing the amount of waste disposed at the dump yard. As responsible citizens, we must adopt one of the methods of composting at home and convert garbage into manure.” another official said.
