Lalbagh flower show to pay tribute to last Mysore king
Bengaluru: Lalbagh is getting ready for its Independence Day annual flower show, which will begin on Friday, and this year’s theme will be a tribute to Jayachamrajendra Wadiyar, the last ruler of Mysore Dynasty Chamaraja Wodeyar, to mark his centenary.
Mysore Horticulture Society and Horticulture Department here have joined hands to pay tribute to the last Maharaja of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom.
To mark this occasion floral replicas of the glimpses of Mysore Palace such as the royal court, jamboo savari etc. will be installed. The main attraction will be ‘Chamaraja Circle’, Mysore with a statue of the Maharaja upon a flower bed.
Since the Maharaja was a patron of music, floral depictions of musical instruments will also be displayed. For the first time in the history of flower shows in Lalbagh, 40 different varieties and concepts of insectivorous and carnivorous plants will be exhibited.
Lalbagh garden Deputy Director Chandrashekar said, “Preparations are nearing completion. Mahaveer Jain Hospital will provide a paramedical team to attend to any medical emergency in the venue.
Meetings with the NGO Saahas are conducted to support and train the vendors to be well prepared, equipped and aware of systematic waste management and segregation, so that the event does not lead to any trash pile ups.”
Saahas field supervisor Swathy said they are working closely with the Gardens office in Lal Bagh for waste management.
Saahas will focus on educating the vendors about effective waste segregation and deploy a team of volunteers to carry out scientific waste disposal.
Sources from the Horticulture Training Centre said that this year their theme will be ‘Vertical gardening with potted vegetable cultivation’. Since the city residents face space shortage to grow plants this type of cultivation could be a solution. A security staff in Lal Bagh said that preparations had commenced more than a month ago.
After many years the roads inside the garden are getting asphalted.
