Hyderabad: Actor’s wife ends life over dowry demand
Hyderabad: Television actor Madhu Prakash was booked in a case of dowry death after his wife Bharathi (34) committed suicide and the latter’s parents alleged that she was harassed for additional dowry and having an extra-marital affair.
According to Rai-durgam police, the couple Madhu Prakash and Bharathi were married in 2015, and did not have kids. They were living along with Prakash’s parents at Panchavati Colony in Manikonda. Prakash was acting in television serials and his wife was working with a private firm.
For quite some time, Bharathi has been complaining of Prakash’s uncertain working hours and she wanted him to quit the profession. She also reportedly had suspicion over her husband of having an extra-marital affair, said the police..
On Tuesday at around 10 am, Bharathi made a video call to her husband and asked him to reach home early, and threatened to end her life if he fails to reach home.
Prakash did not bother as she had threatened the same way earlier also. But, when he reached home at 7.30 pm, Bharathi locked herself in a room and was not responding. He opened the room with an additional key only to see her hanging to the ceiling with a cloth and informed the police.
Speaking to media, Madhu Prakash said “We had disputes which generally a husband and wife have. Bharathi was thinking more about the issues and used to manhandle me, for which I just used to go out and avoid more quarrel. She made a video-called to me yesterday threatening to kill herself, but I thought it was her normal threat. I also attempted suicide by consuming cleaning acid.”
Raidurgam inspector S Ravinder said that the parents of the deceased woman were alleging that Prakash harassed their daughter for additional dowry and also alleged him of having an extra-marital affair. The actor is taken into custody for the questioning.
