Chennai: RS 5 Lakhs worth jewels stolen from govt doctor’s house

The forensic department officials lifted fingerprints and a sniffer dog was brought to the scene.

Chennai: Gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and cash were burgled from the locked house of a Central government doctor at the railway quarters in Aynavaram.

The house of a cardiologist S.Senthil Kumar, who works in Perambur railway hospital and lives alone, was burgled. According to sources, on Tuesday morning, Senthil went to the hospital and returned in the evening, when he found the locks of the door broken.

The bureau was forced open and the contents were strewn about. On being informed the Egmore police rushed to the spot. The doctor told police that at least Rs 5 lakh worth gold jewellery were missing from the house. He further said that this was the third such incident taking place in the vicinity in over two months. He also stated that around 100 sovereigns of gold jewels were stolen from another doctor living in the same railway colony and said no actions had been taken to prevent such crime.

Police sources said there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity. The forensic department officials lifted fingerprints and a sniffer dog was brought to the scene. Further investigations are on.
