M Karunanidhi demise: 1.2 lakh police deployed across Tamil Nadu
Chennai: With the lakhs of DMK cadres from across the state expected to come and see their leader for the last time, the state police have deployed more than 1.20 lakh police personnel in the state.
In a meeting convened by DGP T.K. Rajendiran on Tuesday evening, the police were directed to ensure the uninterrupted supply of milk, medicines and other basic needs. “DGP had directed to provide tight security to bus stands, railway stations and other public places,” the source said.
Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Police, apart from scrambling its entire strength of 22,000 personnel, additional 10,000 police personnel have been brought to the city.
“As many as 20 IPS officials from other districts have camped in the city to coordinate the security arrangements,” police source said.
Apart from deploying more than 30,000 police personnel in the city, 12 companies of para-military forces (1,200 personnel) have been deployed near Rajaji Hall, where Karunanidhi’s body to be kept for the public to pay homage, and the roads leading to Rajaji Hall such as Anna Salai, Wallajah Road apart from Gopalapuram and CIT Colony.
