Jalapathothsava at Bharachukki on August 18, 19, at Gaganachukki next month

A sum of Rs 50 lakh each has been allotted for the Jalapathothsava at all three waterfalls by the tourism department.

Mysuru: Much before the Dasara, festivities, the tourism department along with the district administration in Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar is all set to host Jalapathothsava, a colourful cultural extravaganza at Chunchunkatte in Mysuru, Gaganachukki waterfalls in Mandya and Bharachukki waterfalls in Chamarajanagar. The event is being organised to celebrate the bountiful rains this year, after the drought of the past few years and also attract more tourists to Old Mysuru region,

The Jalapathotsava will be held for two days with cultural programmes, and special lighting or illumination of the waterfalls on the cards. A sum of Rs 50 lakh each has been allotted for the Jalapathothsava at all three waterfalls by the tourism department. According to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Shankar, Chunchankatte Jalapathothsava at KR Nagar taluk in Mysuru will be held on August 11 and 12 and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy. Mandya Deputy Commissioner N. Manju Shree said they were planning to host Gaganachukki Jalapathothsava on September 15 and 16.

At Bharachukki waterfalls in Chamarajanagar, the Jalapathothsava is tentatively scheduled to be held on August 18 and 19. Meanwhile, the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner held a preparatory meeting on Dasara and said that they plan to host a state level employment mela during the festivities this year. They have also written to the concerned authorities on hosting the Dasara air show. “The meeting of the Dasara high power committee led by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy is likely to be held in Bengaluru next week, when all major decisions on Dasara will be taken,” he said.
