Madhya Pradesh: Fasting Medha Patkar removed from protest site

Bhopal: Social activist Medha Patkar who launched indefinite fast on July 27 demanding proper rehabilitation for the people affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam project, was forcibly evicted from the demonstration site at Chikalda in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on late Monday evening. The police have also taken her into custody.
She, along with 11 activists, who had joined in the hunger strike were taken away in an ambulance, a senior police officer said.
“Her health condition was deteriorating. The medical team which visited her on Sunday had cautioned that her condition might worsen if she did not end her fast immediately.
Ms Patkar, however, said she would continue the fast till her demand was granted by the state government.
