Karnataka: Gandhian Surendra Kaulagi dead

He was admitted to the hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Mysuru: Social worker and Gandhian Surendra Kaulagi died in a hospital here on Sunday night. He was admitted to the hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Kaulagi was 84. He was laid to rest at Hosajeevanadaari near Melkote in Mandya district on Monday. Born on October 28, 1934 at Gudigeri in Darwad district, he was a follower of Vinoba Bhave and worked as secretary of Jayaprakash Narayan.

He was president of the Karnataka Sarvodaya Mandali. He had established Janapada Seva Trust at Melkote and took care of children from underprivileged families. He brought out Prasthutha Janapada Vichaara, a monthly magazine.

Dasimaiah and Jamnalal Bajaj awards were among the many honours he had received. His wife Girijamma passed away last year. He is survived by Santhosh Kaulagi and Subhash Kaulagi.
