Srisailam to get inflows for a week
Hyderabad: Inflows into the Srisailam dam fell from 2.36 lakh cusecs to 1.36 lakh cusecs by Sunday afternoon but Central Water Commission officials said the project would continue to get the same amount of water for another week.
CWC sources told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday that Saturday’s rains in the Bhima river region downstream of the Ujjain dam in Maharastra and Karnataka would add to the water flowing into Sris-ailam through the Jurala day.
On Sunday morning, both Almatti and Narayanpur dams in Karnataka released around 1.70 lakh cusecs, that normally takes three days to reach Srisailam. Officials at the Srisailam dam were hopeful that the flood would continue till next Sunday in the order of more than 1 lakh cusecs.
The water level at Srisailam stood at 853 ft against the full reservoir level of 885 ft on Sunday evening; storage stood at 93 tmc ft against the full capacity of 215 tmc ft.
AP engineering officials released 1,000 cuseces of water each to Pothireddpadu head regulator and to the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi lift scheme to meet drinking water requirements as well as filling tanks en route as a first step.
