Turkey claims Mumbai-based group behind coup, India investigates
New Delhi: India is looking into Turkey's request to shut down institutions linked to the Fethullah ‘terror’ network in the country including Mumbai, maintaining that it was behind last month's attempted coup in Turkey.
"India is looking into the request made by Turkey," an official source said.
India's reaction came after Turkish Consul General Erdal Sabri Ergen in Mumbai told reporters that his country has requested Indian and Maharashtra governments that all institutions in Mumbai and elsewhere, connected with this network be closed.
"The institutions connected with the network are (there) in Mumbai. Our Ambassador has informed Indian authorities. We believe the Indian authorities already had that information," he said, when asked if Indian authorities were informed of Fethullah's Mumbai connection with last month's coup bid in Turkey.
He also said that Turkey has given a lot of documents and provided evidence in this regard.
On July 15, Turkey witnessed a failed coup attempt by military and more than 270 people died in events surrounding it.
