Rajapalayam breed takes crown at Krishnagiri dog show
Krishnagiri: For the first time after 27 years since the mango festival was introduced here, the hound Rajapalayam breed dog was selected for overall championship in the dog show held on Sunday.
The event took place at the government boy's high school ground and was organised by the district Animal Husbandry department in which over 130 dogs participated.
“Over 130 dogs of 23 different breeds participated in the event held on Sunday evening,” Dr S.Elangovan, deputy director for the district animal husbandry department told reporters after the event.
He added, “all the dogs except for the Rajapalayam are imported. For the first time after 27 years since the mango festival was introduced, a native hound dog was selected as overall champion by the judges.”
According to the Animal Husbandry department, the dog show conducted here in the annual mango festival aims to teach dog owners about hygienic practices which need to be followed if pet animals need to be clean and healthy.
Dogs were vaccinated during the dog show and its owners were also asked to groom their pet animals regularly to keep them free from fleas and ticks. Claw trimming is also important to protect children from getting injured when playing with pets.
