IMD predicts heavy downpours, GHMC gears up for emergency

Despite a ban, roads are being dug to instal CCTV cameras.

Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said the corporation has geared up for tackling any emergency during the heavy rainfall predicted for the next two days as predicted by the India Meteorological Department.

During a convergence meeting of heads of all civic agencies, he said there should be proper co-ordination among officials to tackle emergencies during heavy downpours.

He said minster K.T. Rama Rao and senior officials were posting some of the important grievances online. Every official must play a vital role to sorting out the issues on priority,” he said.

Despite a ban, roads are being dug to instal CCTV cameras. The GHMC is taking all precautionary measures to ensure road-users don’t face problems, he said.

The electricity department has been taking up pruning of trees and throwing the branches on the roads, causing inconvenience to road-users. This has to be sorted out, he said.

Dr Janardhan Reddy said disposal of construction and demolition waste had been become a major problem. The GHMC would impose penalties on violators, he said.

Cyberabad police commissioner Vishwanath Sajjanar suggested that while permissions are being granted for the construction of multi-storey buildings, instructions must be given to the builder to install CCTV cameras at the sites to have better images.
