Bengaluru: Hundreds of Metro passengers, who had no clue about Namma Metro going out of service, were left stranded on Friday morning, and became victims of autorickshaw and cab drivers.
Passengers had to cough up nearly thrice the fare for auto and cab rides. An auto ride from Indiranagar to M.G. Road normally costs around Rs 50, but on Friday it was Rs 150 to Rs 200. The amount went up depending on the desperation of the passengers.
“I use the Metro regularly from Indiranagar to M.G. Road to reach my office. A smooth commute that takes a few minutes and a few rupees, cost me Rs 200 today. All this, for no fault of mine," lamented Mr Sathish, a techie.
Even cab aggregators Ola and Uber hiked the fares and at it went up to 1.7 times the normal fare at its peak.
“If I reach office late even by half-an-hour I am marked absent for half-a-day and my salary is cut,” said Mr Ganesh, even as he was bargaining with an auto driver at Malleswaram to head to his office at Peenya on Friday morning.
