Swathi murder case: Leaders raise doubts over investigation
CHENNAI: Political leaders, including DMK chief M. Karunanidhi and VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Thursday raised doubts over police investigation into the murder of techie Swathi at Nungambakkam railway station. In his question and answer statement, Karunanidhi cited the reported claim of Ramkumar as per the petition filed in the Chennai sessions court. He quoted the petition saying Ramkumar did not attempt suicide by slitting his throat but the police did it. “The police who came to arrest me split my throat with a blade,” the petitioner had said. In his petition, Ramkumar had alleged that police had arrested him to protect the real culprit, the DMK leader said.
VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan demanded the state government to order a CBI probe into the murder to bring out the mystery behind the case. “There are doubts there could be some others, who had connected to Swathi through Facebook, behind the murder. To clear all such doubts, Tamil Nadu government should order CBI probe into the case”, Thirumavalavan told reporters after paying floral tributes to the memorial of Dalit leader Rettamalai Seenivasan at Otteri. He also demanded the government to provide a job to Swathi’s sister and pay compensation to the family.
Thirumavalavan made this demand two days after Puthiya Tamilagam president K. Krishnasamy urged the police to have an open-minded approach to the murder case to bring out the truth behind it. “What drove him (Ramkumar) to murder a woman? Was he alone involved in it? Was there a triangular love?” These need to be probed.
