Mangaluru DySP Ganapati was upset with delay in promotion, transfers

He named K. J. George, a former home minister, and said he was biased towards him and had adopted a casteist approach.

Bengaluru: In an interview to a regional new channel just a few hours before he took the extreme step, Mangaluru DySP Mr. Ganapati named Bengaluru development minister K.J. George, ADGP Ashit Mohan Prasad and Pronab Mohanty. He said that he has lost hope in the system as it did no good to honest officers. He alleged that he was promoted to the rank of DySP very late as he was facing departmental charges, while his batchmates were close to getting promoted to the rank of SP. He also expressed displeasure over frequent transfers and senior officers treating him badly everywhere, as he did not belong to their caste.

He named K. J. George, a former home minister, and said he was biased towards him and had adopted a casteist approach. While working in Mangaluru in 2008, there were attacks on churches and ADGP Prasad was IGP (Western Range) then.

The officer allegedly harassed Ganapati during his stint for not averting attacks on churches. However, it is not known why Ganapati made allegations against Pronab Mohanty.

Who is Ganapati?
M.K. Ganapati hailed from Madikeri and had joined the police department as Police Sub Inspector in 1991. He was promoted as Police Inspector in 2001. He had served both in Bengaluru and Mangaluru cities as inspector.

He had moved to Mangaluru two months ago after he was promoted. He is living in an apartment there along with his wife and two sons. His younger brother is also working in the police department.

As inspector of Yashwantpur police station, his team had gunned down notrious rowdy sheeter Prashanth alias Pacchu, in September 2010. Later, his family members had moved court accusing Ganapati of carrying out a fake encounter.

Later in March 2014, he was serving at Rajagopalanagar police station and was suspended following allegations that he had mentioned the amount of stolen property as just a few lakhs while the complainant alleged it was Rs 1 crore. He was also in the dock for allegedly misusing seized vehicles when he was serving in Madivala police station.
