Hyderabad police is planning ambush techniques in bylanes

Cases of drunk driving are in fact higher in these alternative routes.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic department has adopted an ambush technique to trap drunk drivers.

While motorists now know the routes where the cops carry out drink-driving checks and take by-lanes to escape, traffic constables have set up new bandobast in these interior roads too.

Cases of drunk driving are in fact higher in these alternative routes. North district deputy commissioner of police – Traffic, L.S. Chauhan, said: “Teams have started thinking like the drunk drivers. There were never checks at Balamrai and Tadbund. A drive was recently conducted at these places and on a single day, 40 commuters were fined.”

Traffic teams mostly concentrate on main roads and by-lanes linking pubs and restaurants. Earlier, checking was carried out from 10.30 pm to 12.30 am but after several daytime drinking cases, cops are also not following any particular time frame.

“Three days ago checks were done between 5 pm to 7 pm and on a single day we caught 70 violators. The team has also stated checking beyond 2. 30 am. Violators change tactics to escape and cops have also changed strategies to book them. Our aim is to see Hyderabad free from drunken driving,” added the DCP.
