BBMP offices hit by rodent menace, floats tenders
BENGALURU: After floating tenders to catch dogs, the BBMP has now floated tenders to trap rodents at its offices in various parts of the city as many important documents and equipment have been damaged by them. The BBMP is all set to entrust private agencies to trap rats and other rodents and the tender is estimated the cost '4.97 lakh for two years.
The authorities have chalked out project report and said rats should be caught at BBMP head office, Town Hall and IPP office in Malleswaram.
The rodent menace is giving sleepless nights to BBMP officials as prominent documents have been damaged by rats. Even the wires of Xerox machines have not been spared by the rodents. This has forced the officers to send confidential documents outside for photocopying.
The contract mandates that the agency must engage in trapping rats every week. They have also been entrusted to identify the rat holes in the BBMP office premises. They must also update the officials concerned about the equipment, pesticides or rat poison to be used to trap and kill rats. July 13 is the last date for submission of tenders.
It may be recalled that during 2012 and 2013, the BBMP had spent Rs 2 lakh and trapped 20 rats - Rs 10,000 on each rat!
