Thanjavur: AISF protests private schools’ exorbitant fees

New government colleges should be opened and new courses should be introduced in them.

Thanjavur: Members of the All India Students Federation (AISF) affiliated to the CPI staged a demonstration before the office of the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) here on Friday demanding stern action against private schools which collect more fees than the fees prescribed by the Government.

They said that some private schools in Thanjavur collect more than the prescribed fees. They also said in a memorandum submitted to Shantha, chief education officer (CEO), that government schools should not be privatized. Vacancies of teachers should be filled up in government schools. Similarly government colleges should also be protected by filling up vacancies of lecturers and professors, they urged.

New government colleges should be opened and new courses should be introduced in them. Proper toilet and drinking water facilities should be available both in government and private schools. Hostel facilities should be improved for students, they added.

-V. Ilayaraja, district president of AISF led the agitation. S. Senthilnathan, district secretary and M. Bharathi, National council member of AISF, participated in the agitation.
