Southwest monsoon monsoon to hit, Bengaluru gets some respite

Coastal Karnataka will receive good rainfall, while south Interior Karnataka will receive less rainfall.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has said the city will not receive heavy rainfall for the next four days, while the Southwest monsoon may cover the entire state in a couple of days.

The Director of KSNDMC, Srinivas Reddy, said, “As of now, 70% of the state is covered and within 2-3 days Southwest monsoon will cover the entire state. Coastal Karnataka will receive good rainfall, while south Interior Karnataka will receive less rainfall when compared with north interior Karnataka.”

The IMD department on its website has stated, “In association with the likely strengthening of southwest monsoon and likely formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely along the west coast June 8 to 11.”

It further said that conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into more parts of Central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Goa, some parts of south Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka and Rayalaseema during next 24 hours.

Conditions are very likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh in 48 hours.

Reddy also said the southwest monsoon has reached Ballari and the coastal Karnataka and there will be no respite from rains for a few days.
